Subject: Seeking copyright clearance

Date: Thu, 04 Dec 2003

We are seeking your permission to use some of your images of Syria in our online educational materials. We are writing a country guide on Syria to promote cultural awareness and understanding of the people and customs inherent to the country that is so often in the news these days. We have completed other country guides as well, please feel free to access them here.

As a rule, our materials are accessible to the public and available to everyone free of charge. Our work is developed in conjunction with major American universities, however we ourselves are a non-profit educational institution. We are looking to use your images under the international educational fair-use doctrine, as we have already secured copyrights from newspapers, university libraries and news agencies around the globe. There is a disclaimer on your website for non-profit use, but I just wanted to go ahead and get express permission from you anyhow. When using your images, we would clearly attribute them to you by using a copyright line with each picture (© Shunya).

 Respectfully
 S, Instructional Design Department

Subject: Request

Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003

I hereby would like to request the use of one of your beautiful pictures for a project initiated by the Royal Tropical Institute and the University of Amsterdam.

The Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam, a non-profit organisation in the Netherlands that and opens to the public the cultural heritage of the people of the world. You can visit the Tropical Institute at: www.kit.nl

The picture I am interested in is the on of a tattooed woman from Syria. The project concerns an exhibition in the World museum in Rotterdam, hopefully and probably at the end of next year and a publication of all nomadic cultures that ever tattooed.

I hope you honour this request.
Yours sincerely,
M

Subject: Picture of Bolivar

Date: Fri, 05 Sep 2003

Greetings,
I work for a Brazilian magazine called Continente Multicultural. It is a monthly magazine that talks about, arts, literature, culture, social sciences and so on. On our next edition we are needing some pictures of Caracas and Bogotá. While doing some research on the internet, I ran through your website (which is very interesting) and found a good picture of Plaza Bolivar. I would like to know if the magazine could use that picture to illustrate an article for the next edition. I would be very happy if you could give an answer to my request. Thank you in advance.

Subject: Use of Pictures

Date: Mon, 23 Jun 2003

Good Morning,
I read your copyright information and feel sure that my use of your pictures is ok. However, I prefer to request permission. I would like to use four photos in my video for school for a lesson on Greek Mythology. It is a short stage play I wrote on the life of Zeus. Three of the photos are landscape and one is of the wooden horse. The video is educationally based and will be used with lessons that correlate with our Standards of Learning Objectives for Virginia.

Thanks,
D, Library Media Specialist

I am seeking permission to use some of your photos contained in the site of Greece, Sparta, etc., in a PowerPoint program used in my history 111, and 112 class at Imperial College at Edmond, Oklahoma.  Naturally, full credit will be given to your excellent website.

Hello Shunya,
I work for a children's fortnightly national newspaper called [clipped] in India. I just wanted to write an article for our young readers about Syria and the vast history it cradles and that all might be laid to waste should USA choose to do another "liberating act". You have beautiful pictures which we could put to use. However being a small publication we don't have much to offer you. We do not carry any advertisements and survive on subscriptions which we get thru parents and our readers recommending it to other parents and friends. We could send you a copy if you would like to see our paper. Let us know if you can help us.

Thanks,

S, Assistant editor, Hyderabad

Subject: Permission

Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003

To whom it may concern:

Hello, my name is A and I am a student at Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, NS, Canada.  I am currently designing a web site about my country of Syria for one of my courses.  Your web site has a lot of great pictures about Syria.  Not many web sites offer the same quality.  Therefore, your permission to use some of the pictures on your site would be very much appreciated.  I hope to hear from you soon.

Greetings!
I am not going to tell you how fantastic your site is, for 1) many people have told you that; 2) you know it yourself anyway; 3) I don't think you should care what other people say.

I am just curious whether you did travel to all these places and if you did - where did you get time and money? It's not a vain question because I tried to do similar things, but I have to work 3 years in order to be able to travel one. So far I didn't find a job that would enable me to travel for work in the places I like (my business travels are usually NY and London).

A little bit about me. I was born in Soviet's Leningrad, where you could not travel. First time I left in 1988 and travelled all around Europe. Then I went to the US to do an MBA at UCLA. After that I worked in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Cairo for 5 years (and travelled all over the Middle East). Now I am back in CA. I am fluent in Russian, Arabic, French, Italian and a little conversational in Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, Armenian, Farsi. My passion is travel, photography, languages and religions.

Drop me a line if you feel like.
Regards,

Marina
